Exhibition Postponed – Collection 1: Portraits of Her

Interior maintenance and repairs are currently being undertaken in order to resume exhibitions following a water leak that occurred in the Lecture Hall (B1F) and the B2F gallery (which houses the collection exhibition) in April. Due to these circumstances, Collection 1: Portraits of Her, originally scheduled to open on June 4, will be postponed.

Please note that no collection exhibition will be presented during the special exhibition Yoichi Umetsu: Crystal Palace, which runs from June 4 to October 6.

Collection 1: Portraits of Her is currently scheduled to begin on November 2, but the date is subject to change according to the situation. (Further information will be posted on this website as soon as details are finalized.)

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but kindly ask for your understanding in this matter. We are committed to taking every possible measure to ensure the safety of museum visitors and artworks.

This exhibition focuses on works from the museum collection that feature female figures and are arranged in thematic sections. Here, we consider what contemporary artists entrust to portraits of women as individuals with personalities and backgrounds, rather than simply being encoded images, and what kind of social, historical, and relational aspects they express in their works.

Also included are works that were newly acquired in the last fiscal year such as an installation by Leonor Antunes that was inspired by the activities of the female designers Michiko Yamawaki and Charlotte Perriand.
