El Greco's Visual Poetics

As we approach the 400th anniversary of the Spanish master El Greco's death (1541-1614), the museum is honored to present the largest retrospective of the artist's work ever held in Japan. The approximately 50 works, primarily oil paintings, will include the legendary altarpiece The Virgin of the Immaculate Conception (making its first appearance in Japan), and a selection of other pieces from over a dozen museums around the world such as the Museo del Prado in Madrid and a number of churches in Toledo.
