September 27(Sat.)-December 7(Sun.), 2014
Through his use of unique textures created with thick layers of paint and sharp lines, Jean Fautrier(1898-1964) became a groundbreaking figure in Art Informel, a movement that led to the emergence of abstract expression in postwar France. This much-anticipated exhibition, the first devoted solely to Fautrier's work ever held in Japan, marks the 50th anniversary of the artist's death. Including his Otages (Hostages) series, the event will present about 100 of Fautrier's paintings, sculptures, and prints.
